Here is Ashanti having been spotted by the paparazzi after a recent appearance on TRL. And if there is one thing you can count on with Ashanti, it is that she always manages to pull off something new and different with her hair. Here she is sporting a funky looking pompadour that has a smidge of retro feel to it, with a contemporary edge.

If you are thinking about going retro and doing something of a bouffant nature with your hair, you need to use a lot of product and have some patience when it comes to placing your hair exactly how you want to. However, that being said, giving yourself a retro look is a fun way to change your overall look and do something different with your hair for an evening.

You don’t need to go crazy with the teasing or backcombing here, with this style it is all about hair placement. Start the look on washed hair, and mix a dollop of styling wax into towel dried hair. Apply some gel to a wide toothed comb, and comb the gel through your bangs to set. Use the comb to create a deep side part and place the bangs in the direction you want them.

You will then dry your hair with a round brush, curling your bangs and ends under as you blow dry. When you are finished that, create another deep side part on the opposite side of your head. You can then flip your bangs in the opposite direction for a poofy pompadour look like Ashanti. You can secure them behind your ear with a pin if you like so that they don’t create movement, or you can simply finish the look with some extra hold hairspray.
