With the recession in a full swing, and the economy moving in the opposite direction, it can be pretty hard to keep a styling wardrobe up to date with the quality you deserve to love. But even if you are pinching here and there a little more than usual, that doesn’t mean you have to give up on looking good, you just need to be a little more creative about it. And thanks to movies like Sex and the City 2, vintage fashion is not only going to be great on your wallet, but on your style as well, because vintage fashion has never been more contemporary than it is today. If you just love the vintage looks you are seeing play over and over again on the big screen, or even if you just need to cut back on some luxe, read here to find out what the 3 wardrobe staples you need this summer for an uber chic vintage looks.

1. If the word polka dot makes you think of itsy bitsy bikinis and fun in the sun on the beach, then you know just how fun polka dots can be. But they aren’t just for preschool dance recitals any more, in fact polka dots were a big retro trend in the 70’s, and they have come back with a vengeance. Anything you can find that is polka dotted will add a unique vintage twist to your wardrobe. You can make the vintage dot contemporary by mixing up the sizes, wearing small dots on top and large on the bottom, or just add a splash of polka to an accessory like a handbag. Any dot, big or small, will add some funky retro to your overall look in a heartbeat. Think Julia Roberts at the races in Pretty Woman, you get the picture.

2. The pin tucked dress. We saw Charlotte perfect this in Sex and the City, and this is a dress we covet because it is the dress for every girl, every figure. You want to look for short or capped sleeved dresses with pin-tucked waisted skirts that flair. Vintage boutiques and clothing shops will certainly have a lovely sized inventory of the pin tucked dress. But you won’t be wearing it to make meat loaf and run to the market, you’ll be wearing it to work, to run errands, to go shopping with the girls. So pretty and feminine and so you.

3. High waisted denim shorts. For those days when you want to break away from the good girl routine, channel your inner Farrah Fawcett with a pair of high waisted short shorts in denim. The super sexy leg is one of the things that made men all over America drool over when Farrah Fawcett hit the scenes in the 70s.
