Top 3 Dos and Donts of Wearing Jeans
Back To Articles
Denim may well be the world’s oldest fashion staple. Okay scratch that, Audrey Hepburn perfected the little black dress long before jeans were in style, but our denim friends must certainly take a cool second place to the wardrobe staple. And designers do not stop aiming to please, changing denim trends simply but classically with every season. This being said, can we still keep our favourite pair hanging around, or do we need to mix it up with every new runway look? Take a look here at what we, and some top fashionistas have to say about wearing denim today, the do’s, the don’ts, and the how to wear’s. THIS is all you need to know about wearing denim in 2010.
1. Skinny jeans are soooooo not over.
You know, there is an ugly rumor going around out there that skinny jeans are OUT. Let’s sound the buzzer large on this, pay no attention to what you hear or read…elsewhere. The TRUTH is that bootcut is going out much faster than the skinny jean. In fact, what you WILL find is that the skinny jean is being faded into history by being blended into what we now know as the tapered cut. The tapered jean is the next best answer to the skinny jean. It is a fit that all sizes and figures can wear with a high waist, and low scrunchy ankles. You will notice right now that ALL the celebs are wearing tapered jeans with scrunchy ankles and, being that Hollywood is where fashion begins and ends, this look is not leaving ANY time soon. Just ask Nicole Richie. She’ll tell you.
2. Every shoe pairs with every jean.
This is true which is why we love denim sooooo much. From flat boots to ballet slippers to your favourite four inch heels, any and/or all of these will pair with your boot cuts, your tapered jeans, and even your standard skinnies. For tapered jeans, you have the benefit of either going ballet or heels and it simply depends on the occasion. If you are going ballet, you want to make sure the ankle scrunches up enough to cover at least half the top. And if you are wearing heels, scrunch the legs higher up the ankle to show off those pretty shoes.
3. Nobody Wants to See Your Knickers Ladies.
Victoria Beckham, AKA Posh Spice is a legendary fashionista of our time. So much so she wrote a book called “That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels, and Everything in Between”. On denim she says, size matters. Get the right fit, no matter what the cut. Her biggest denim don’t? “The absolute worst thing anyone can do with their jeans is to pull their G-string over the waistband.…I don’t mind a bit of lingerie showing…but that is very different from bending over in Piccadilly Circus and showing your thong.”
